So far this novel has exceeded my expectations. Even though my expectations weren't very high to begin with, I actually am kind of enjoying it. I really like how Mark Twain creates a story that is very realistic. It doesn't have the feel of a novel that's completely made up, but more like something that could happen or has happened. My favorite character right now is Huck because he is down to earth. He will listen to what people think, but if he doesn't think their suggestions make sense, he stops doing whatever they told them to. He only does things that he finds beneficial to himself, and doesn't try to conform to society.
The dialect in this book can be hard to understand at some points in the novel, but I think Twain does a great job of fitting the character's dialect with the characters. Also the normal language and spelling is different, but that seems like it would happen over time as dialect changes and is just something that you would have to learn to do when reading older novels.

I definitely 100 percent agree with you on everything you said. The dialect gets easier and easier every time we read. Huck is definitely my favorite character, by a country mile.
I thought Huck was stupid at first, but the more I'm reading, the more I realize I was wrong.
Agreed. Huck pretty much goes with the flow, and isn't afraid to have an opinion. I don't think that any body can just up and run away for an adventure, but Huck seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and it is on straight for the most part.
I am in the same boat as you, pretty much. I really hate reading but this book is pretty interesting so far i guess. The characters are pretty cool and realistic. Huck reminds me of how a lot of people are these days as kids, but except they don't really do all the country stuff... lol
