Huck hates Pap
Huck and Pap have this weird working sort of relationship. They will get along just fine until Pap gets so drunk he starts beating on him. If it wasn't for that Huck would enjoy being in the cabin. However, he was willing to give away his entire fortune just so his Pap couldn't touch it. Is this because he doesn't want Pap wasting it on getting black-out drunk and beating him, or does Huck truly hate Pap? I believe it is an awkward mixture of the two. Huck nearly admires the wild sort of way Pap lives, however he hates him when he gets drunk and "handy with the hickory". While this is a sort of extreme case, I feel like a lot of children hate their parents while loving them because they are their parents. This awkward love-hate relationship, however, is characterized by Pap's frequent drunken moments. Which so steeply tilts the relationship towards the hate aspect that Huck goes as far as faking his own murder to escape, and not have to see that awful man again.

I strongly agree that Huck hates Pap. In my opinion, the only reason Huck would like Pap, is because Pap took him away from education and civilized living, and even then, its more like a subtle gratitude. Huck hated that man for every reason but that, and now that Huck had the way and means to live the way he liked AND be away from Pap, Huck's hate for him showed when he pounced on the chance at running away.
Pap is a freaking piece of garbage. I hope he dies in the end. How could someone be so cruel to their children?? I'm proud of Huck for running away. I wish I had the strength to do that when I lived with my dad.
