Is Huck smart or dumb?
I was surprised that Pap "kidnapped" Huck and Huck enjoyed being in the cabin most of the time except when Pap was beating on him, because Huck had a great life ahead of him while living with the widow. Even though she was high maintenance, she was looking out for Huck. It was smart thing what Huck did in staging a murder. Although I would have gone back to the widow because now he is on his own and says that he is lonely. I can't imagine doing what he does. Having an alcoholic as a father would scare me because I wouldn't know what type of person I'd come home to everyday. It is very brave of him to get away.

I believe that Huck is more on the smarter side than the dumb. It was smart of him for staging his own death by killing the hog and bashing the door down. I also find it smart that he didn't go back to the widow because once Pap found out he ran away to the widow, who knows what he would have done to get him back. That would be putting the widow and himself in danger.
I agree, it was smart of Huck to get away. Although, I think it was smart of Huck to stage his death and travel alone. It would have not been a smart decision on Huck's part to stage his own death, then return to the widow. His father would eventually find out, and bother him for money again.
I too agree because anyone would run away from a alcoholic father who was never there for them. And if Huck believes he can live on his own then it was a smart decisions, but if Huck cant survive then it was a terrible decision. So no matter what choice Huck made, it all depends on if he can survive or not.
I think I understand where Huck is coming from when he enjoys being off in the woods aside from being beaten. While being in school, and taken care of by the widow may be better for him in the long run, he has grown up with the influence of his dad and hasn't really seen what hard work is like. To him, living in the woods and surviving off the wild is what he knows best and enjoys.
