Disrespectful or Self- respect?
To me in the book when Huck runs away from Pap I see that as disrespectful, but at the same time I can see why he ran away. If someone was beating me and got drunk every night I would get tired of it and what to do something. Huck could've stayed and helped him get through Pap's problem of being and alcoholic but he decided to take the easiest way possible out. It would've been hard for Huck but in the end I feel like he would appreciate Pap and still love him. I feel like Huck left for self- respect on himself and just wanted what was best for him. I wonder if Pap after "Huck's death" will sober up and Huck will come back to him. Or if Huck will get tired of living on the island and just go back to Pap and help him.

I totally agree. If someone was abusing me I would run away too. And I also agree with you saying its disrespect because Huck should help his father.
I must say I disagree. It is highly unlikely for a twelve year-old boy to be able to help his father with his alcoholism. A question I have for you is, how do you think it is disrespectful for a child to run away from an alcoholic dad who is highly abusive and has tried to kill him? Please do explain. Huck's whole life has just been about surviving. Pap does not want the best for his son. This is quite obvious when he threatens to beat Huck because he has learned to read and write. The only reason Pap came back around in the first place was to try and get Huck's money. I would thoroughly enjoy to hear your side of the argument a little bit more in debt, because I don't really understand where you are coming from.
